Gay Porter, Artistic Director and founder of the Charlotte Youth Ballet, envisioned a production company that would give qualified dancers from local ballet schools a chance to perform with professional visiting guests artists in big stage productions. For 29 successful years the result of her vision has been the Charlotte Youth Ballet. Children and adults alike have enjoyed Mrs. Porter's originally choreographed storybook ballets and CYB's stunning annual production of "The Nutcracker" delights audiences every year, becoming one of Charlotte's most special holiday traditions.
The Charlotte Youth Ballet has always given back to the community. Charlotte's first, locally produced Nutcracker was a CYB production. It was also home to the city's first racially integrated performance company. Charlotte Youth Ballet Company dancers perform in two major shows every year, but they also are dedicated to dancing in charitable events throughout the year.
