Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Marena Pérez commenced her training at Ballet de Nana Hudo. She began her professional career in Compañía de Ballet Teatro Municipal of San Juan. In 1998, became part of Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, rising to soloist in 2002. In 2005, she joined Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico and was promoted to principal dancer in August of the same year. From 2007 to 2009, Mrs. Pérez was part of Andanza, a contemporary dance company in Puerto Rico. In 2010 she resumed her role as principal dancer of Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico. She is now Principal Dancer and Artistic Director of Mauro Ballet Company.
Her repertoire includes the principal roles in the folowing classics Giselle, Don Quijote, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Carmen, Cinderella, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Esmeralda, Paquita, Raymonda,, La Fille mal gardee, La Bayadere and Phantom of the Opera among others. In neo-classical and contemporary roles, Mrs. Perez highlighted in Serenade, Jerome Robbins In the Night, Le Combat, The Moors Pavane, Carmina Burana and Alberto Mende’s Muñecos. Other classical pas de deux and solos in her repertoire are; Cerrito in Grand Pas de Quatre, and The Dying Swan, Venecian Carnaval (The Santanella pas de deux), Spring Water, Esmeralda, Le Corsair, Flames of Paris and William Tell.
Since 2004 to today Mrs. Pérez was invited to participate in the International Dance Festival in Miami, Festival de ballet de Panamá and EDANCO in Dominican Republic. In 2005 she participated in the Segundo Certamen Interamericano de Danza in Buenos Aires, Argentina, winning two gold medals and one bronze.
She has performed as guest artist with the CYB Ballet of North Carolina, in Fountain Ballet in Detroit, Almeda Ballet in California, Greater York Ballet in York and Ballet Arts in Tennesse, Ballet Etudes in Miami, RMT Ballet in Haiti and in Ballet Studio in Dominican Republic alongside Principal dancers from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Canada and USA.
Ms. Pérez is the Owner and Artistic Director of Mauro Ballet Co. and Mauro Youth Ballet Company.
