Spring 2020

CYB Dancer Families:
Charlotte Youth Ballet’s mission and vision has always been to provide dancers an opportunity to perform in professional level productions while introducing ballet to diverse audiences to foster a lifelong support of the arts. We are known for our community outreach, the versatility of our repertoire and the excellence of our performances. We have an ongoing commitment to continue to attract, develop and encourage student dancers while growing our dedicated base of volunteers and patrons so that we can give our community even more.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Charlotte Youth Ballet, along with theater companies around the globe, is unsure when a return to live theater is feasible and has made the difficult decision to cancel Nutcracker in 2020. We hold out hope to put on a Spring production and will let you know as plans develop. We are launching CYB’s “Preserve the Legacy” campaign this season and a large part of our legacy is YOU!

To that end, we have decided to maintain a CYB Company of dancers with some modifications necessary during this unprecedented time. We will invite dancers into our Apprentice, Company and Senior Company levels to all those who were part of Company in 2019. For younger cast members, we invite you to join the “Young Aspiring Member” level that we have created for this year’s circumstances. Please read on for the requirements and responsibilities for each dancer level, as well as how you will be part of CYB this season.

FOR ALL LEVELS:
1. Placement in the CYB Company is at the discretion of the Artistic Team and is based primarily on demonstrated technique achievement.
2. Attendance in all classes and assigned workshops is mandatory. There will be a limit to the number of dancers we can have in person and you will be grouped based on the needs of the Artistic Team. *Dancers who are uncomfortable attending in person instruction, may choose to attend via Zoom.
3. NO FUTURE PARTS ARE PROMISED! Any and all workshops are to enhance your development as a dancer and for the joy of dance. Workshop placement is not a promise for, or indication of, future casting in any CYB production.
4. Dancers are expected to take part in all fundraising efforts and to share the vision and mission of CYB with others.
5. All offerings are dependent on current Covid-19 restrictions and CYB will adhere to state mandates. We recognize that this may delay scheduling of classes and workshops and if there is a spike in cases that all offerings will be virtual or postponed.
6. If Covid-19 has impacted your finances and you are in need of assistance, please reach out to Cindy Gruber at cyb@charlotteyouthballet.org. We do not want our fees to prevent your dancer from pursuing his/her passion.
7. All dancers will need to sign and submit a waiver of liability prior to taking part in any workshops or classes. See attached.
8. For the safety of all, in person workshops and classes will adhere to state mandates, including social distancing protocols. This includes spacing, hand washing, wearing masks, and disinfecting barres and all high touch surfaces regularly.
